The 1874 Synod appointed a Committee to prepare forms of consecration of a church or chapel, church yards or cemeteries, for laying the foundation stone of a church or chapel, as well as prepare a service for the introduction of ministers to their cures. The Committe was chaired by the bishop of Fredericton, John Medley, with the bishops of Nova Scotia and Quebec as members. The present text is the draft written by the chairman. It was presented to the 9th Provincial Synod, Montreal, 1877, but it was tabled only until the 10th Provincial Synod, Montreal, 1880, wich approved the text.
