Description
The Eastern Canada Chee Kong Tong's letter to Chinese Consul Fong in "the ridiculous suggestion of the Ontario Resisting Assoc. to ban the Freemason's Resisting Assoc. in Eastern Canada". The controversary may be summarized as the follwing The Ontario Resisting Assoc. in Ottawa sent a letter to the Chinese Consul asking the latter to outlaw the Freemasons' Resisting Assoc., "for it is the policy of the government that there should be only one fund raising agency in one area or community". The Freemasons' Resisting Assoc. of Eastern Canada stationed in Ottawa was created under the directive of the Chee Kong Tong H.Q. in Victoria after the Sept. 18th Japanese Agression of 1936. The Freemasons' Resisting Assoc. had raised military funds right after the July 7, 1937 war with Japan. The campaign was also coordinated with the Freemason's H.Q. in Victoria. The deaails of those campaign's finance accounts are available at the association. The association ceased its function after 1938, when the Ontario Resisting Assoc. (in Ottawa) was created, in accordance with the guidelines of the government. However, due to incompetent and perhaps corrupt practices of the Ontario Resisting Assoc., many complaints have been expressed towards it. The failure to publish financial accounts of the fund raising campaigns, the obvious incomplete and inconsistencies existed in the accounts published for 1938 and 1939, the total mysterious handling of the "monthly donations for the wounded soldiers and refugees" started from 1939, the outrageous act of witholding people's Government Bonds and Gold Bonds because they fail to make their monthly donations", these are some of the things that contribute to people's mistrust on the Ontario Resisting Assoc. In light of this, the Freemasons' Resisting Assoc. of Eastern Canada renewed its activities in 1943 and organized New Year Fund Raising Campaign, July 7th Contribution Campaign, and Double Tenth Donation Campaign. The results of these have been published and the funds raised have been sent to China already. This is a clear answer to the accusations raised Ipy the Ontario Resisting Assoc. on our alleged "actions harmful to the united resistance efforts" add many others. Dated March 8, 1944.
