Description
- Riots in Chinatown. About 9 pm.yesterday when a functionary of the Resisting Ass. was giving a lecture with a microphone in front of the CBA, the audience started shouting at the speaker and at each other. More and more people gathered at that place. The noise could be heard all over the downtown area. "Beat the traitors!" was one of the shoutings. Later about 8 police cars with 20-30 city police arrived and blocked the Chinatown area. The police guarded all the streets and tried to split up the mob in vain. Around 12 pm a b ig police car arrived and carried away the leaders (of the Resisting Ass.,? the targets of the riots?). But the mob was not dispersed until 1 am the next morning. According to the Province (Sept. 23) about ten people went to the CBA last night and abused the CBA. More and more people gathered in front of the CBA. Finally a police car came and carried the leaders (of the CBA?) away to protect them. Lots of tomatoes and potatoes were thrown into - the police who protected the Chinese leaders. A Chinese and two Westerners were arrested for obstructing police commission. - Halifax: Fund raising campaigns.
