- Local News 1.A Chinese, Doug Saw, was prosecuted for starting ***. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined $50. Another Chinese, Chang, was prosecuted for possessing opium * opium smoking equipment. He was fined $50 or one month in jail. 2.A Chinese sailor fell from the warehouse. He injured his head quite seriously and was admitted into St. Paul’s Hospital for treatment. News from Other Cities 1.Victoria: Notice of Loi-Shah Ning-yueng Yu-Hsing HQ – A general meeting will be held on March 29 to discuss various matters. 2.Victoria: Chinese, Li, was arrested for possessing opium. He pleaded guilty but since the material recovered from him had to be analyzed, the case would be postponed until Friday. 3.Chicago: A Chinese student invented a method of jade making. 4.***: Chinese, Yu, fell from the fire escape while he attempted to flee from a police raid. He was smoking opium at the time.
