- Local News 1.Chinese, Chou Tak-fong, was arrested for possessing opium. He was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment & was fined $200. 2.Chinese, Yeung On, was prosecuted for running a gambling house on Pender St. He was fined $50. The 3 gamblers were fined $10. Another Chinese man was prosecuted for the same charges. He was fined $55. The 5 gamblers were fined $10 each. News from Other Cities 1.Duncan: CKT & Dart-coon Club – detail of spring banquet 2.Victoria: Chinese, Chow *** & Li ***, were prosecuted for attempted murder of Shiu ***. The 2 defendants have been acquitted.
