1. The Chinese Overseas Student's Assoc. in Van. ( % rfjZJiJ %) has organized a speech meeting every Sunday for members to improve public speaking. 2. A Chinese passenger died on a liner this morning. News from other cities 1. Ottawa: Up to March 31, the total number of immigrants is 163,288, showing a decrease of 4,434 from the previous 12 months. Immigration from British Isles 64,082 (an increase of 5,202); from U.S. 30,727 (increase of 167); from Northern Europe 30,332 (increase of 753); other countries:38,147 (decrease of 10,556). The number of Canadian citizens leaving Canada and returning (from April 1, 1929 to March 31, 1930): 29,830. 2. Victoria: the /J£ V\V ^ church held a meeting, inviting the schools and different groups to attend. 2. Port Alberni: the police arrested 5 opium smokers in the Chinatown area. Two were prosecuted for selling opium, one for possession, and the other 2 for smoking.
