Description

1. A Chinese, Wong ( ), was sentenced to jail for one year because of a drug abuse. He must leave the country at the end of the year. Wong appealed to the High '"ourt concerning his deportation. His request to stay was granted. However, he was arrested immediately after his release and is still in prison now. 2. The Union for Chinese Chefs ( *$)) has been hiring an officer to help members to look for jobs without service charge. It is estimated that so far the Union has lost $7-800. It is now hoped that members or competent personnel would volunteer to take this post. Those who are interested in the job should apply directly to the Union. 3. A Chinese was arrested for running a gambling house. He was fined $50; the 3 gamblers were fined $10 each. Another Chinese was prosecuted for the same reason. He was fined $50; the 7 gamblers were fined $15 each. news from other cities 1. Washington: (D.C.): the CKT held a party to welcome reps, from Baltimore ( ^^J^ and New York. 2- ' CKT( party to welcome Mr. Ng and Mr. Siu. 3. Victoria: The head of the Agricultural Dept. announced that certain rights of the Potatoe Control Board would be abolished because the management of potatoes is the concern of the growers and has nothing to do with the government. Also, small-scale fruit growers would not be restricted by the distribution law.
