JULY 12 (SATURDAY) P.3 1) News from Ottawa. It was reported that 48,231 Chinese had registered with the Canadian government of which 31,000 was residing in B.C. The immigration office believed that this was not a precise figure since a number of Chinese still remained unregistered. According to 1921 statistics, there were 39,587 Chinese in Canada. P.3 2) It was reported that in 4 years time, the east Asians would be completely excluded from fishing certain kinds' of fish which was becoming increasing signi- ficant in the fishing industry in B.C. P.3 3) News from VICTORIA. , who had been a prominent merchant for a number of years, in Victoria, died in Hong Kong recently. Members from , , , & . The Chinese Public School had decided to hold a memorial service for him on August 24 at CBA. P.3 4) CKT (SHANGHAI, CHINA). An announcement that the association had sent out repre- sentatives to the pier to welcome and help all returning overseas Chinese. In addition, in orde to provide better service and convenience for returning Chinese, negotiations had been made with a chain hotel in Shanghai, H.K., Kwangtung and Shan Tao, such that the following items were included in the travelling coupons sent by CKT (SHANGHAI). All returning overseas Chinese going to Shanghai, H.K. Kwangtung and Shan Tao were entitled to following privileges: a. A 107o discount on hotel rent. b. A tour guide would be provided. c. Special agents were appointed to help the Chinese to transfer money, mail, as well as buying realty. d. In case of special circumstances and with the guarantee of CKT (SHANGHAI) the Overseas Chinese could be exempt from room and board payment for 3 days.
