JUNE 6 (TOURSDAY) 'f/Utf+^f. P.3 1) A gambling joint in E. Pender Street was searched by the police. 44 people were arrested. They were mainly Chinese, Japanese and Indian. The owner was Chinese. P.J 2) (EDMONTON). A report on theopening ceremony for its new lo- cation. P.3 3) News from WINNIPEG. About 866 Chinese had now registeeed with the Immig- ration office. There KEKE was still 1 month to the deadline for registration. The officer in charge announced that the East Asians had been abiding by the new registration regulation. P.3 4) thanked CKT, , & his friends in various places for raising funds for him so that he could go back to China. P.3 5) Consul General Lim was asked by the editor of the Chinese Times about his opinions towards observing July 1 as the Chinese Humiliation Day. He agreed that this migh£ be a good i way to show the discontent of the Chinese, but at the same time, he pointed out that it would be harmful to the Chinese if they held it on Dominion Day since riot could possibly be arounsed. Be- sides, the business of the Chinese restaurants would be greatly affected if they stopped doing buiness on Dominion Day. He suggested that the Chinese Humiliation Day could be held on June 30 instead since it was the day when the restrictive immigration law was signed. P.3 6) CBA (VICTORIA). wrote to CBA giving his opinions towards ob- werving July 1 as the Chinese Humiliation Day. He suggested that July 1 was not a suitable date, becuase of the following reasons: a. The 43 restrictive immigration laws were officialy enforced on June 30. b. There was the fear that some Chinese with weak will might participate in various celebrations held on Dominion Day. If that happened, the Canadians would certainly laugh at the non-unity of the Chinese. c. Since July 1 was a national holiday during which most people would take a rest, any actions taken by the Chinese at that day would not be too eff- ective. If another day was chosen, more attention would certainly be drawn from the general public. - CBA (VICTORIA) , ad received support for observing July 1 as the Chinese Humiliation Day from , CKT IN , and Revelstoke. - CBA had decided that no date change should be made for the Chinese Hum- iliation Day despite the letter of because thoroug h consid- eration and discussion had been made before the announcement was made.
