APRIL 21 (MONDAY) P.3 1) 5 Chinese were arrested in a smoking den in West 6th Aventie. P.3 2) More than 70 Chinese were arrested in 2 gambling joings in E. Pender Street. P.3 3) News from HBB&H Ottawa: Ambassador had arrived on April 21. He and his follower^ were greeted by CBA executives at the pier. P.3 4) News from Victoria. The 43 harsh Chinese immigration laws which were passed on July 1, 1923 had certainly brought great sorrow and suffering to the Chinese. On April 20, , A Chinese merchant had a banquet to dis- cuss with some other prominent Chinese in the community the setting up "t- (an association to commemorate July 1 when the restrictive immigration laws were enforced). Plans for the set-up were to be drafted by various Chinese associations and would be sent to CBA so that a gemeral meeting would be called forth. At the same time, the fellow members in other places over Canada and China should also be informed of such a set-up so that they could give suggestions or moral back-up to the association.
