BY APRIL 17 (THURSDAY) P. 3 1) The Bureau for raising funds for Kai Ping High School. It was reported that many iKfcfe labourers had been very enthusiastic in raising funds for the school. Names of the donors were reported. P.3 2) News from Ottawa. The East Asian affairs were brought into discussion in a parliament meeting. It was reported that 7 months after the new Chinese im- migration law was passed, there were 455 Chinese entrants into Canada of which 433 were transit visitors; 10 were Canadian born or naturalized citizens returning to Canada from China or other places; 5 were students going into universities; 1 was the Chinese Ambassador's follower; and 1 was a student from California fs who came to Canada with special permission. With the passing the 43 restrictive Chinese immigration law, Chinese exclusion seemed to be made possible. So far, about 40,000 Chinese were staying in Canada of which 6% were women; as a result, the birth rate was 7.6% in every thousand. The rate was drastically low as compared to the Japanese where the birth rate was 31.8%. The reason why the Canadians were more lenient towards the Japanese was that they considered the Japanese a more superior race as compared to the Chinese and thus they should not be dixcriminated against. P.3 3)(Victoria) announced that all branches of CKT would celebrate the birthday of (and ancester) on April 23.
