Description
MARCH 20 (Thursday) p.l commented on the election method of CBA. He was in favour of the present election by localities because the capable men from each locality association were chosen to be elected as the executives for CBA. However such an election method was challenged by some people who were discontented with the administration of the CBA executives for the past 2 years and thus they proposed revising the election method. They men- tioned resuming the election system as from the period Before 1917. In the past, the executives of CBA were elected through public vote by the Chinese in Vancouver. The one who got the most votes became the presi- dent. The voting method was changed to election by localities in 1918 because it was believed thatfethe association could be better functioned and the realty of the association could be further developed by doing it this way. stressed that election by localities should be the most appropriate election method in a place where there was a dense Chinese population. All outstanding persons in each locality association could be chosen as the candidates for the executives of CBA, whereas when the public voting system was used, there was the possiblity that certain capable men would be neglected and would not be chosen for the final election. Besides, there could also be the abuse of inter-assoc- iation conflicts which might consequently jeopardize the election. P.3 2) Consul General Lim, the Chinese Businessmen's Association and had held banquets to welcome who pointed out that China could be strengthened by promoting her realty development. After his speech, ' Consul General Lim gave a talk on the lives of the Chinese Canadians. He requested to inform the-Chinese government about thfe unequal treatment faced by the Overseas Chinese in Canada. P.3 3) News from New Westminster. 19 Chinese were arrested for gambling in Chinatown.
