Description

March 4 (Tuesday) p.2 1) (Vancouver). 2 announcements were made. a. The members were urged to pay all unpaid maintenance fee ($1) and foundation fund ($5) in order to KJ enjoy the privileges of the association. The association would certainly ignore those who failed to pay any fee for 3 years. b. With the help of the members, the association had managed to buy the building at 349 E. Fender St. in 1922. There was now a plan to set up a pak tzu hui ( ) of which all members had a share that was worth $10. The objective of the KH association was to buy the area next to the association so as to develop realty business for the association. c. Names of the new executives were released. President: P.2 2) CBA (Vancouver). In the general meeting held on March 3 for discussing raising of funds for the General Hospital, about 30 people were present. President gave a talk on the relationship between the hos- pital and the Chinese. (representative from Wong Kong Har Tong) emphasized that if the Chinese did not help when requested by the General Hospital, they would certainly be rejected in the future. He gave an example of how the Japanese were rejected by the General Hospital in Cumberland for refusing to donate funds. Speeches were later made by (representative from Shon Yee Association ) (from Reading Room) and (from ). Each association had agreed to buy $1000 insurance (which was paid by installments). It was voted that CBA should buy $5000 insurance. In addition 10 people were sent to various associations to advocate such an insurance plan. They were BY P. 3 3) Professor of the University of Chicago, who was responsible for the research of the East Asians along the Pacific, had come to Vancouver. Branches for the investigation of the East A ians had been set up in Vancouver, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco. About $300,000 were set aside for such a research. had already written some books on the Negro, Potish and other Europeans. P. 3 4) News from Ottawa. There was the order that the execution of would be postponed. P. 3 5) News from Penticton. 2 Chinese were arrested for keeping opium.
