Description
September 6 P3 1) Ambassador Chau stopped by Vancouver for a day before he left for China. He was being asked by a B.C. representative about his opinion with regard to the new Chinese immigration law. Chau stressed that the new law was an indication of Canada's hostility to China. As a result/the passing of the law, the friendship and the trade between Canada and China were bound to get worse. Boycott of the Canadian products and exclusion of Canadian preachers and teachers in China would be inevitable. He further stressed that his trip to China wasto discuss with the government about how to make a last appeal. Whether he would come back to Ottawa or not depended on the response of the Canadian government. 2) The CBA was requested by the Orphan's Assoc. to propagate its fund drive which would be held on Sept. 18. 3) & were in Cranbrook. A meeting was held by Chee Kung Tong on Aug. 31 to welcome them. Speeches were made by them re the plan to set up branch assoc. in Lethbridge. Enthusiasm in donations.
