July 5 P3 1) The H.Q. for protest announced that the representative committee had been discussing the suggestion revision of terms 26 & 27 of the new immigration law that was proposed by the H.Q. ( ). No decision had been made and the H.Q. was requested to send some representatives to Ottawa to help in m aking the final decision. , & were thus sent to Ottawa. The representative committee had also sent a letter to the H.Q. on June 18 giving a detailed report on the difficulty that they were experiencing in protesting against the immigration law. It also emphasize d the disconcern of the Canadian parliament for the Chinese immigration law which was swiftly read without much regard. The representative committee hoped that the H.Q. would publish the letter in the Chinese newspaper for public knowledge. (The letter was to be continued) 2) News from Victoria. A Chinese drug offender who had been imprisoned for several months had to be deported. However, upon the appeal to the judge ( ) by his lawyer he was exempt from deportation. Several months later, another lawyer tried to repudiate the judgement of by bringing up the case again the court. Consequently, re-judgement has bo be made in court. 3) Chee Kung Tong of Victoria on June 22 made the following announcements: (a) A general convention was to be held on October 10 to revise the con- stitution and to discuss the building of . It was also decided that feach member had to donate 50<; preparation fund for the convention and the money was to be sent to the H.Q. by Sept. 15. (b) Chee Kung Tong in Lethbridge had sent out and to various places to raise funds for the assoc. It was hoped that the Chinese would be generous in donating money. (C) the H.Q. had received a message from the branch office in Saskatoon that it was about time to pay for the realty in Regina. If money was not available, the owner would take back the realty and the money that was previsouly paid would be confiscated. Consequently, the business of Chee Kung Tong would be badky affected. The assoc. discussed the ^question with and , who were visiting there and they had decided to sell bonds which cost $46 each and which would be repaid back at $50. Each branch assoc. of Chee Knng Tong should help by buying shares. The H.Q. urged the people to do this. P3 3) (d) President of the H.Q. had agreed to cancel his resig- nation upon request of both H.Q. and branch association.
