July 3 Pi 1) The letter that sent to was published. It listed the harsh terms of the new Chinese immigration law and also the aims of Chee Kung Tong of Shang- hai in setting up . The aims were: (a) to abolish any harsh immigration laws that were imposed on the overseas Chinese and to demand equality with immigrants of other nationalities; (b) to acknowledge the Chinese government and the people of the affairs of the overseas Chinese, hoping to arouse their concern. P3 2) gave another attack of the restrictive immigration law in the Vancouver Sun. He pointed out that the restrictive law would certainly hinder the industry of both Britain and Canada in the Far East. Moreover, it was inhuman to forbid wives and dependent children of merchants from coming into Canada and it was unreasonable to arrest people without warrant. Furthermore, by forbidding Chinese tourists, teachers and skillful tech- nicians who belonged to the educated group from coming to Canada, nobody would be able to negotiate or arbitrate between the Canadians and the Chinese in case of disputes.
