June 29 P2 1) Ambassador Chau's letter to the CBA of Van. on June 22: he said that he had talked to the immigration officer ( ) on June 12 about terms 26 & 27 and that had agreed to his proposal that those 2 terms should not apply to those Chinese immigrants who had been staying in Canada before the new law was enforced. The revised term had already been ap presented to (leader of the Parliament) for/proval so that they could be added to the new immigration law. However, Chau later got a notice from that , who represented the overseas Cinese in Ottawa had requested to cancel the revised term because he believed that they had already c&Eained a satisfactory immigration law. Chau stressed P2 1) that he could not intervene into his policy, but he would certainly make an effort to have the 2 terms revised. He hoped that what he had mentioned above could be published in the Chinese newspaper for public knowledge. P3 2) Ambassador Chau wrote to thank the immigration officer on June 14 for his cooperation in revising terms 26 and 27 of the new immigration law. He requested the immigration officer to inform the external affairs minister about the revised terms. P3 3) replied to Ambassador Chau's letter on June 19, saying that he had already presented the proposal of revising terms 26 & 27 to parliament for discussion. He added that the government would not pick on the legal Chinese immigrants. 4) was recruiting shareholders for the realty of Chee Kung long in Winnipeg. He was welcomed by Chee Kung Tong there. Speeches were made by president , , , & Pll 5) An article of protest against the Canadian government in passing the restrict- ive immigaation law which was a means of discrimination against the Chinese.
