June 28 P2 1) counter-attacked the Canadian for denouncing the Chinese workers in the Province. He pointed out that the Chinse workers would only facilitate the development of the Canadian industries instead of exploiting them. Moreover, there were millions of whites staying in China and they were by no means harshly treated or excluded. In order to maintain friendly relationships between Canada and China, such intentions of excluding the Chinese should be abolished. P3 2) 2 Chinese were caught for selling drugs to 2 Canadians. 3) News from Ottawa. An extraordinary executive meeting had been held to discuss the Chinese immigration law. (member of parliament) suggested to allow the Chinese merchants to bring their wives and dependent children into Canada, however his proposal was opposed by a number of his colleagues. This term was read by the members of Parliament for the 3rd time on June 26. Most members were strongly against it. They pointed out that if such a term was enforced, B.X. would be entirely outnumbered by the Chinese who were used to coming over by pretending to be merchants. Moreover, the Chinese could never become real Canadians or assimilate with them and they would eventually go back to China, thus it was surely disadvantageous to the Can- adians if no restriction was imposed on Chinese immigrants. The suggested proposal was eventually dropped because of the objection. 4) gave a farewell party for (treasurer of the association for seting up Hoysun High School) before he left for China. was also requested by the association to supervise in building the school when he was in China. 5) 6 Chinese were fined $5 each for working on Sunday.
