June 19 P3 1) The H.Q. for protest aginst the immigration law listed the proposals that were presented to the parliament which revised the restrictive immigration law. It also pointed out that the immigration officers and HP's for B.C. were not in favour of changing the law. Only a few members would support the Chinese. The proposals to revise the law were as follows: #5. To abolish the terms that stated that only university students could stay and that they had to leave upon graduation. They suggested the follow- ing instead.: (a) the head immigration officer could decide whether the student was qualified to come to Canada or not; (b) The wives and dependent children of the merchants or British subjects could come to Canada; (c) The preachers, teachers and newspaper editors should be allowed to come; (d) All legal immigrants could sponsor their wives and dependent children; #7: All legal Chinese immigrants could enter Canada through any city, rather that being confined to Vancouver and Victoria. (The proposals were to be continued.) P3 2) Bok Oy Reading Room announced that its opening ceremony was to be held on July 1.
