- Description
- P3 4) On May 4, the Chinese immigration law was read for the third time. (representative for South Vancouver) said that the law would be ineffective if the government was relunctant to change the term merchant. He further added that since the representatives of B.C. were all in favour of complete Chinese exclusion, great discontent would surely be aroused if no absolute action was taken. (Labour Party representative in Winnipeg) however asserted that the overseas Chinese in Canada should be treated nicely, otherwise once the unification between north and south China was complete, revenge against Canada would be inevitable. He further suggested that the enforcement of the new immigration law should be postponed for 1 to 3 months. The head immigration officer said that more time was needed before the new law could be enforced so as to acknowledge those Chinese who had already gone back to Cfcina. 5) An association for protest against the new Chinese immigration law was set up in $ Edmonton. 6) Names of the foundation fee payers for in Cranbrook, Medicine Hat, & (Quebec.
