- May 4 P3 1) The City Council held a meeting yesterday and they talked about the proposal of excluding the Asian merchants by the Retail Businessmen's Assoc. A lawyer pointed out that the City Council had no right to stop the Asians from opening shops. A city council member also pointed out that such propaganda as Asian exclusion should HH be encouraged. (He said that a city council member had tried to use the anti-Asian campaign to run for his election. 2) of New York had published in both English and Chinese in the May issue the new Chinese immigration laws and the reaction s of the people towards it so as to arouse the sympathy from Chinese and whites. About 10,000 copies had been published and were distributed to all places. The overseas CMnese in Canada were very enthusiastic in ordering the paper. (Montreal had ordered 3000 copies, Toronto 2000 and Van. 1000). 3) News from . The overseas Chinese there had set up an assoc. for protest aginst the new immigration law on May 2.
