- Description
- March 7 P3 1) There was a report on the English newspaper that a reason why the CPR Ship Co. had employed a large number of Chinese crewmen was that they had bribed the persons in charge of hiring them. It was also stressed in the paper that the Chinese ceewmen were primarily responsible for smuggling opium into Canada by means of which they could make a lot of money. This might also account for the eagerness of the Chinese in becoming crewmen. P3 2) 3 Chinese shops were sued for operating after hours. They were in fact tricked by the plaincoat police to violate the law.
