February 17 P3 1) In the Parliamanet meeting on January 31, there was a suggestion that because of the tremendous influx of Chinese immigrants into Victoria and Vancouver, the $500 head tax could be refunded to those small Chinese merchants so that they can go back to China. P3 2) The Education Department of Victoria held a meeting to discuss the school segregation question. They decided to talk with the parents and the rep- resentatives of the CBA hoping that they would understand that school seg- regation was by no means a form of discrimination. The purpose was to improve learning for both groups. P3 3) News from Cumberland. The owner of a coal mine insisted in hiring Chinese miners despite the request of the Canadian Miners' Assoc. for hiring the whites instead.
