- October 27, 1922 (Friday) p.3 3 Chinese from Sault Ste. Marie thanked .*( and the Chinese ambassador for appealing to Ottawa with regard to their being accused as drug criminals. Their shop was being searched by the R.C.M.P. and after finding certain pipes andolive oil, they were arrested and were fined $692. They felt that the persecution was unfair. Thus they m -t ~> talked to .v:ft '^3. -'- who was at that time visiting Sault Ste Marie. _Y\L_ !<~ tried to help by going to Ottawa to report the case to the Ambassador and a lawyer was employed to protest against the persecution. They finally won the case and the fine was refunded.
