September 27, 1922 (Wednesday) P.I (1) The Anti-School Segregation Association held a meeting on September 24 in which 11 Chinese associations were present. They talked about the injustice that was imposed on the Chinese students. They encouraged the students not to go to school in order to protest aginst such discrimination. Their co-operation was needed in order that control could be taken. Those who disregarded what they were told would be treated as outsiders or enemies of the association. P.3 (2) News from Victoria: The School Administration Department insisted on segregating the Chinese students from the white ones. They said that if the Chinese students persisted in not attending classes, that the special school would be closed down. They stressed that the school was not set up primarily for the Chinese, but for all those who did not know English. They were by no means discriminating against the Chinese. It was reported that so far no legal action had been taken by the Chinese to abolish the school. A lawyer had been employed by them, but he agreed with what the School Administration Department said. ( A pity that the lawyer was Canadian!)_______________ P. 3 (3) 16 Chinese were arrested for gambling at Nanaimo.
