June 22, 1922 (Thursday) P. 3 Ambassador Chan protested against the following immigration laws: 1. Only those Chinese under 13 could come to study in Canada. 2. The wives could come to join their husbands in Canada provided that the husbands had resided in Canada for 3 years and had $2500. The immigration office argued that such restrictive laws had to be passed because it had been discovered that many students and wives were in fact working in Canada. Ambassador Chan announced to the Chinese community that he would try his best to improve the immigration law, but he also hoped that fellow Chinese could co-operate with the government so as to.
