Description
June 8, 1922 (Thursday) P.3 (1) Admission requirements for Overseas Chinese who wanted to enroll in Peking University. (2) The C.B.A. of Vancouver announced that a meeting was to be held to discuss the new immigration law which restricted Chinese students from coming to Canada. P.3 (3) News from Montreal. In response to the attack by many Canadians that Chinatown was the centre of evil drug activities, the Chinese Businessmen's Association urged the Chinese to sweep out such abuse by helping to arrest the offenders. The association would take the lead in doing this and had also requested the Chinese ambassador to give a hand. Another reason why the association took action was because 3 whites were recently murdered near Chinatown and the Chinese were suspected of comitting the crime. The associaton thus wanted to find out the truth, hoping that the stigma attached to Chinatown could be removed.
