May 17 P.2 1) An article in the Sun by a woman who said that if the landlords refused to rent office space to Chinese, Chinese would have no place to do business. P.2 2) A whiteman sent letters to the Mayors in Van., Vic., and New Westminster so that they could stop the increasing influx of Chinese eggs in the market. He demanded that labels should be put on products made from Chinese canned eggs because they Here non-hygenic. 3) Discrimination v.s. Chinatown - the public health dept. set up a strict regulation demanding cleaner butchering and grocery stoes. The floor of the meat shops had to be cemented so that washing could be done every night. Chopping boards should be very clean and refrigerators were also encouraged. 4) Some Chinese who arrived at Van. on Czarina were transferred to the E. Provinces or the West Indies by 9 carriages. 19 Chinese workers who just arrived at Van. were transferred by CPR to Windermere as road constructors. 5) Tee Shing Shon Yee Association Van., had celebrated the 6th anniversary on May 15. Speeches and discussions were arranged after the banquet. 6) Due to the increasing criticism on E. Asians, by the veterans and unemployed, a survey was underway to calculate the exact number of Chinese in Van. However, the survey personnel found it extremely difficult because many Chinese didn't have permanent addresses. Even Consul Yip couldn't give much help. 7) CKT H.Q. - secretary died recently, and the H.Q. gave him a very formal funeral. 8) CKT H.Q. - announced on May 17 that all branch associations should send in any change in mailing addresses so tha correspondence could get to the right places efficiently. P.11 9) CKT - the fund raising bureau for the establishment of the 5-ancestor temple gave a name list of donors. 10) CKT Winnipeg - the realty co. gave name list of shareholders.
