April 15 P.I 1) CBA reported on an article in Van. Sun on April 14 which stated that China- town was the root of all cocaine and morphia business. Thus Chinatown should be torn down. In response to such criticism Consul General Yip immediately called upon the Chinese community to establish local self-improvement association. Yip asked for collaboration with the CBA which would hold a meeting on April 18 to discuss this. All Chinese Associations were to send 2 reps, to the organizational meeting. The Local Improvement Ass'n would set up its own con- stitution. 2) The Groceries and Retain Merchants Ass'n held a meeting whereby there were reps, from Chilliwack, S. Van., Kelowna, New Westminster, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Princeton and more. They demanded that an appeal should be drawn up to ask for exclusion of E. Asians. 3) Leung Chung How Tong Van. - clan association; foundation fee of $5; temporary executive chosen: President ; Vice P.2-3 4) The white society criticized Chinatown as the base for all evil drugs; therefore (Consul General Yip and Seto More would like to improve Chinatown. A meeting was held with reps, from all organizationp, associations and companies. The name of the United Chinese Organization was Self Improvement Cttee in order to uproot all the evil drug market. 5) Someone suggested that deportation of all drug racketeers and confiscate their head tax. 6) A veteran sent an article to the Sun and reported that Chinese were not solely responsible for the drug problems. Many whites were also evil drug racketteers.
