April 13 P.2 1) CPOS Japanese Queen had arrived in Van., onboard were many Chinese passengers. They were transferred to the East through CPR. P.3 2) The English newspaper reported that it was difficult to trace the date when the restrictive immigration law on Chinese was administered. However, it was reported that starting from 1876, B.C. Provincial legislature had already appealed to the parliament for restriction. Due to the indifference of the federal government, B.C. then tried to set up her own restrictive immigration laws in 1884-1885. The point was to regulate the working conditions and wages for Chinese immigrants. Ottawa was against the proposal by B.C. Govt., as a result, they only raised the Head Tax from $50 to $100 and then later to $500. 3) CPS donation; e.g. , , , , etc. donated $50.
