April 9 P.2 1) A Chinese gambler wanted to bribe a policeman by giving him a package of cigar- ettes with $250 in it. The bribe was confiscated and donated to charity. 2) It was reported that the influence of drugs was very strong in Canada. Police were trying their best to investigate the drug market. P.3 3) Discrimination v.s. E. Asian workers in hospitals, Vic. news: the commerce association had a meeting about E. Asian workers in Royal Jubilee Hospital. They proposed to fire all E. Asian workers, and proposal was given to the president. One member of the commerce association criticized that Chinese workers in that hospital were impolite and came in and out of the gyneological unit. p.3 3) Moreover the meals which were handled by E. Asians were horrible. 4) 7 Chinese opium smokers were arrested. Some were put in prison for 2 months and the others were fined $20. 5) Van. fund drive for Canton Public Hospital and School name list of donors; e.g. $1000; $500. 6) Kuomingtang Rossland - a member denounced the association.
