March 17 P.3 1) 6 Chinese were arrested in Victoria for smoking opium. Find $22.50. 2) Discrimination v.s. Chinese - New Westminster: news March 15; during a session of a city council meeting, someone brought up the employment issus. They sug- gested that something had to be done so that Chinese workers who demanded low pay would not exploit the chance of the whites who were wanting higher pay. 3) Van. fund raising committee for famine through bazaar: this committee was estab- lished to raise funds for famine relief. The bazaar held from Feb. 12 to March 7 and a total of $13,000 was raised. Much had been remitted to China through Royal Bank. This committee had already terminated its function on March 14. P.9 4) Hoysun Assoc. - 2lst term donations.
