March 3 Chee Duck Tong Van. - name list of donors for expenses of spring festival. An English minister who had been preaching in Hoinam arrived in Van.; he stressed that the famine in N. China was very extreme and needed to be relieved. He said that China still exported rice and eggs to foreign markets instead of the blighted areas due to the difficulties of transportation. Moreover, the export goods could be exchanged for wheat to be sent back. The suggestion by Van. Sun to transfer wheat back to China was a very good one. A Chinese was robbed and molested by a few whites. Discrimination v.s. E. Asian Sailors: the sailors association of the Pacific Coast held a meeting about employment of E. Asian crewmembers. They decided to appeal to the government asking for firing of all E. Asians onboard the liners travelling from Canada to other places, of ports. Fund raising association for famine relief in N. China: Nanaimo- initiators were CKT, Kuomingtang, Leun Yick Co., Chinese Workers Club, Wing On Co., Youth Assoc., and Nanaimo School, Voluntary staff were elected; President Vice . 10 methods for raising funds were set up.
