February 21 P-2 1) Fund raising for famine relief - report on fund collection and services, donated $400. 2) Fund raising for famine rlief - a 6 year old child donated all his lucky money of $30.08 for the famine relief fund drive. 3) CKT Van. - held a spring festival celebration where there were 3 white guests. 4) The Van. School board held a meeting on Feb. 18 when they decided to send reps- to Vic. and request the provincial government for a one million dollar grant to expand school system. If the gov't. refused, over 700 school children would be screened out from registration. P2-3 5) Chan Wing Cheun long H.Q. celebrated spring festival on Feb. 20. Over 100 members attended, Consul General Yip, Consul Sun Kee Cheung ( ) and the secretary Chan Yun we e invited and requested to make speeches. p.3 6) Ambassador Yeung negotiated with the U.S. D pt. about Chinese entry into the States - news from Montreal: All Chinese (officials, merchants, students, tourists), entering States from Canada had to go through the immigration dept. at either Van., Windsor, , etc. (5 cities). No Chinese was allowed to enter U.S.A. through other places along the boarder or without the permission of the Dept. of Manpower. Ambassador Yeung went to Montreal to discuss this with the U.S.A. Immigration department so as to strive to equality for the Chinese. As as result, the States government consented if Chinese who had got permission to enter US could go into the States wherever they wanted and could enter without waiting for permission from Manpower. 7) Dart Coon Club Vic. - held spring festival party on Feb. 19. Speeches were made by the president, Chow Tao Chop. ( ), of Van. 8) Kelowna CKT - held spring festival, speeches were made and fire works displayed. 9) Chinese Shingle Workers - news: the Chinese shingle workers were seeing that there was a bazaar in Van. for draught relief, would like to donate one of their day's wages. 10) Fund raising society for the famine in N. China: name list of donors (or buyers) of the bazaar drive. P.9 11) Hoysun Association H.Q. - 18th and 19th famine donation.
