Description
February 19 P. 2 1) Fund raising for famine relief: Van. : Wong Kong Har Tong registered to donate $800. 2) Fund raising - more reports on money collected. 3) Van. Sun reported that there was a riot in a Chinese Theatre. Some Chinese were trying to boycott the theatre owner for not lending the theatre for fund drives. Thus, the "patriotic* group tried to stir up the case by cheating the audience and actors/actresses out of the theatre where they began to molest and throw stones at them. Although there were police there, they could not stop them until 20 more arrived. The 2 parties would surely become extremes if they insisted on their ideologies. 4) Fund raising for famine relief: a Chinese who lived by cutting and carrying wood was so generous as to donate one of his weekly earnings. P.3 5) Fund raising association for famine relief through bazaar announced on Feb. 19 that the association was not connected with those who started riots at Sing Ping Theatre. The assoc. and Consul General Yip already tried to stop the case, however the result was not satisfactory. 6) Fund raising for famine relief - Kwong Chow - restaurant would donate 50% of its profit on Sat. Feb. 19 for famine relief. 7) CKT Saskatoon - would celebrate the 1st anniversary on March 21. P-9 8) Hoysun Assoc. - 19th donation.
