February 8 p. 2 1) The Chinese Times would like to correct a wrong report on Feb. 7 when it stated that there was a fight in Chinatown which involved over 500 people. The Times asserted that that report was copied from the English paper which associated the arrest of the gamblers and the fight. Now the Times wuld clarify that arrest and the fight was two different cases which were not connected. p. 2 2) The Public Health department held a meeting where the health inspectors and housing inspectors were ordered to investigate the situtation in Chinatown. 3) Tee Shing Shon Yee Hui Van. - established a speech club ( ) in order to train good speech makers. The opening ceremony was held on Feb. 5. 4) Chinese celebrated the New Year by firing firecrackers. p.3 5) A white import and export merchant who had visited China in 1919 said that Canadian products e.g. woolen blanckets, canned milk, nails and paper were very welcome in China. 6) CKT Calgary - Low C. Yin and Wong Sun Chuk who represented the H.Q. to promote CKT realty development, were in Calgary on Jan. 29. They visited the Dart Coon Club and also the CKT where a general meeting was held and money raised. 7) Dart Coon Club - Calgary - held an anniversary party on Feb. 2. Representatives from CKT in other places were there to celebrate the situation. 8) Fund raising for famine relief - Ottawa : the salvation association for famine relief ( ) in Ottawa tried to consult cabinet minister , hop ing the government would help the fund drive by modelling that of the maerican fogvernment which chose directors from the citizens for fund drive. They hoped the government would donate all Chinese Head Taxes collected in 1919 and ship wheat back to China. stated that China did not need relief funds due to the prosperous food markets it held onboard, but he would still inform the association if there was any decision. 9) Discrimination news from Ottawa: an MLA of S. Ontario stated that Chinese eggs should be forbidden to enter Canada because they were cheaper than Canadian ones and thus endangered the sales of Canadian eggs. 10) CKT Van. - who had been elected secretary tried to resign previously but he eventually retained his post after both the Van. CKT and the H.Q. demanded that he should stay. He was given a certificate by the H.Q. 11) CKT - Honourable head - ; Head P-ll 12) Cheng Wing Yeung Tong received the deposit from the members. A name list of donors ($5 each minimum) was posted.
