February 5 P.2 1) Van. commerce and Labour association ( ) held a meeting. The restaurant and hotels workers association (whites) attended the meeting and suggested firing all E. Asians working in restaurants. They said tht E. Asian s demanded low wages thus exploiting the employenent of the whites. The Commerce and Labour Assoc. would sonn contact other associations so as toprovide a united front against E. Asians. They also said that Chinese cooks and tailors were non-hygenic and their working areas were badly ventilated. 2) The schools in Van. were becoming scarce due to increasing number of school children. If school expansion did not happen, 6 year olds could not go to schoil. P-3 3) The Worker 's Union critized the ministers who urged the government to seng wheat for famine relief in China. 4) Hoysun Association Van. Van. Branch sent and the H.Q. sent back to China to prepare the establishment of the secondary school. p.3 5) Hoysun Assoc. H.Q. - the Hoysun School Establishment H.Q. hired Mr. (Wong S. Ring) to become the secretary for the association. He arrived in Vic. ON Jan. 30 and talked about the Hoysun members appreciated the generous help extended by the overseas members. 6) Fund raising for famine relief: Montreal: The religious society in Montreal demanded that the gov't. send relief funds for the famine in China. However, one of the Cabinet Ministers answered that Chinese food products were still coming into Canada to compete with Canadian food. Thus Canada should not help China which was so well off with surplus exports. Canada should deal with her own unemployment problem first. 7) CKT Medicine Hat - attended the funeral ceremony and sent flowers to an old member who died recenly. 8) CKT H.Q. - held meeting to discuss the draught in China. 16 fund raising agents were elected with Lim L- Wing and Seto as heads. 9) CKT H.Q. - announcement on Feb. 5 to urge the members to donate for draught relief. 10) Van. fund raising association through bazaar ( ) announced on Feb. 5 that the lazaar would be held on Jan.?10 - 17 Donations were wlcome.
