February 4 p.2 1) Boycott Japan: on Jan. 5, a steamer going between China and Japan stopped in Japan. 500 Chinese onboard th liner promised not buy Japanese goods. When one crewman bought a few cents of peanuts from a Japanese seller, he was nearly thrown into the sea by other passengers. 2) 50 Chinese gamblers were arrested from 510 Carral St. 49 were bailed out at $25 while the head at $100. 3) Fund raising for famine relief in China: Consul General Yip suggested a charity bazaar in order to raise funds. He donated a pearl ring, and many other mer- chants were enthusiastic in donating merchandize. 4) Fund raising for draught relief: ever since the public fund raising by selling pins on Jan. 28, the ministers elected to request Ottawa for shipment of wheat and fish to China. However, no reply had been received. The World's News received a report from Nanaimo that the Dept. of Transport was also in favour of the shipment of fish. 5) Fund raising for famine relief: Chinese in Vernon, Armstrong, and were concerned about raising funds for relief. $300 was raised. 6) CKT executive list; president ; vice 7) New Westminster - raised enough ship fare for a desolate Chinese to return back to China.
