January 15 p.3 1) Nan Ping Reading Room - executive list; President ; vice 2) CKT Prince George - President ; vice <entry <date>1921-01-17</date> January 17 p.2 1) Van. Chinese Protestant Association for sending funds to relieve the famine in China. was established in Jan. 4 by the Chinese protestants in Van. They decided on 4 regulations: (a) to raise funds from each Chinese store and residence; (b) to raise funds on the street from both white and Chinese (with gov't. consent); (c) distribute donations books to the Chinese community in different areas; (d) To perform a drama and raise funds. (The government had consented to assign Feb. 29 as day for public fund raising.) p.2 2) Tong would like to promote realty development. A meeting was called for by 2 merchants, ( and : ) with 60 Low members. Preliminary constitution was read out. P.3 3) CBA New Westminster - tried to raise funds to relieve the famine in China. $600 had been sent back to Shanghai for relief/welfare. 4) News from New Westminster - a Chinese Shingle worker was said to be stabbed by a white man who ran away. However, the police suspected that the crime was organized by Chinese because a few days earlier, some Chinese Shingle workers reported that they needed protection against a Chinese villain who might kill them. (Due to the recent reduction of wages, Chinese Shingle workers in other places requested the workers in New Westminster to conform with them and go on strike. However, the New Westminster workers refused and the outside workers then tried to revenge by hiring somone to threaten them.
