October 11 P.2 1) Washington news: - the Red Cross donated 500,000 for famine in N. China. 2) Van. fund raising committee for draught in China - gave a list of donors. P.3 3) News from Kelowna (cont Oct. 9 P.3) - the white man's society derogated the Chinese, saying that they were non-hygenic. They suggested firing all Chinese employees in 3 days time; they demanded B.C. legislature change the law and prevent East Asians from working in storesand factories, and demanded exclusion of E. Asians from entering Canada. If that could not be done, the government should ask for $5000 head tax. The most destructive demand they suggested was that all B.C. citieens should, within one year, take a vote of whether Chinese should be excluded from B.C. They also demanded that all goods imported from East Asia should bear a label that they were made by E. Asians. They suggested replacing Chinese workers with white females. 4) CPS Victoria - celebrated Confucius Day. The principal , Consul General Yip all made speeches to encourage the students.
