March 27 P.2-3 1) It was reported in Van. Sun, March 22, that Chinatown was the focal point for narcotic drug merchants. It was rported that if the "higher class" Chinese could not stop his fellowman's illegal business, the Canadian citizens would have to act unmercifuly, in case of emergency. It was a warning to all Chinese and if the drug market did not stop, Chinatown would be removed in order to save the youngsters. 2) CBA counter attacked the Sun's article by stating that whites might be the back of all drug markets. The CBA would also like to stop the drug operation and stressed that Chinese were 1st victims of opium imposed by England, so they would also like to fight its distribution. P.3 3) Consul General Yip Van. also sent a letter to CBA ( ) about the counter-attack in Van. Sun. He said that it was good for the CBA to represent and defend the Chinese, however he heard that such letters would lead to trouble. Nevertheless, Yip had sent an appeal to the provincial government to warn against the outcome of such discrimination by the Sun. 4) Hoysun Ass'n Vic. gave report on the money raised during the meeting in Van. on March 20. Total funds raised during their stay in Van. was over $13,000.
