- January 16 p. 2 1) The Chinese Vegetable hawkers issues would be discussed in the New City Council meeting on Jan. 21. p. 3 2) News from Ottawa: Jan. 15 - it was reported in the English newspaper that the Canadian Retail Merchant Association had held a meeting in Ottawa to ban the entry of East Asians into Canada. A rep. from Van. asserted that appeal had to be sent too the Federal Government for their exclusion. He claimed that the Chinese in B.C. first monopolized laundry and restaurant businesses, and now they had changed to groceries, clothing and fabric which affected the white merchants. 3) Chee Duck Tong Victoria:gave a report on Jan. 16 about the realty development, the credits and debits over the past few years. The Chee Duck Tong building was established in 1903, and in 1914, there was an expansion of the realty. However, due to the European War, the association was in debt. In order to clear the debt, the members decided to establish a Pak Tze Hui hoping the over 5000 members would be able to raise enough funds to clear the debt. (It was reported that and had both cleared their debts and retained their realty by the Pak Tze Hui. In order to give more information, a constitution for the Pak Tze Hui and the Chee Duck Tong were posted for reference. The executives - President ; vice.
