August 7, Thursday P.3 There was a new proposal to restrict merchants or salesmen from entering Canada for business. Merchants who would stay temporarily in Canada had to pay $25 per day; if they would stay in Canada for more than one year they would be exempt from the tax. However, hesitant merchants who did not know how long they would stay, had to pay $2,000 deposit. Tax would be deducted from his deposit each day. 2. C.K.T.: in Hammond There were about 200 Chinese residing in Hammond, B.C. and they were planning to establish a C.K.T. there. Temporary executives and fund collectors were elected for the establishment of the association building. The minimum donation ( ) for the members in Hammond was $5, and about $603 was raised. (The announcement was given out in August 1st.
