April 28, Monday P. 3 1. Ambassador Yeung was in Victoria to argue against the law that prohibited Chinese from employing female whites. He even appealed to the Vancouver Mayor and it was decided to bring the case to the city council meeting on April 28. Ambassador Yeung asserted that such a restrictive law was discriminatory. Jforeover, out of the 3,000 - 4,000 Chinese residents in Vancouver, there were only 5 female whites being employed, thus the government should not take the risk of endangering the friendly relationship with the Chinese by carrying out the law. Ambassador Yeung predicted that the law whould be abolished in Vancouver. 2. The Chinese who was arrested in New Westminister due to employing a female white waitress was fined $20. in addition to the court fee.
