April 8, Tues. - P.2 The Vancouver Public Health Service had sent out a team to investigate the sanitary conditions in Chinatown. Wherever they found disqualified and non- hygienic areas, they demanded modification within a limited time period. There had been already 20 places found to be dissatisfactory due to bad ventilation, poor lighting and over-lodging. The owners were asked to improve the area according to the public health regulation within 14 days, otherwise the owners would be sued (+ April 12, P.3). P.3 2. The C.B.A. (Vancouver) announced on April 8 that the C.B.A. had discussed with the Ambassador and various merchants checking against any government intention that would stop Chinese from employing female whites.
