April 4, Friday P.3 1. Seven returning soliders had replaced some Chinese car washers in the Dai Pei ( ) Automobile Company. They went on strike due to the reduction of their salaries. Originally Chinese car washers were paid $3.75 per day, now the company reduced the salary of the car washer to $3.20, thus the 7 soliders went on strike. They had already chosen 3 representatives to appeal to the United Returning Soldiers' Association. 2. Ambassador Yeung announced on March 28 that there were a few thousand Chinese who had handed in the tax but still remained in China. Thus the government decided to return the head tax to those who had not entered Canada. For those who were genuine students, they were still allowed to enter Canada.
