March 22. Saturday P.3 1. and were in where there were only a few Chinese residents. However, they were able to raise more than $400 for the headquarters. 2. There had been a riot in Halifax 2 months ago when 6 Chinese restaurants were damaged during a riot by the returning soldiers. Ambassador Yeung was in Halifax on March 6 to discuss the case with the provincial government and he asked for compensation from the Halifax City Council. However, the City Council referred Yeung to the federal government for compensation; and Yeung would return to Ottawa to negotiate the case with the government. date ?? 3. There was news from Victoria that between Nov. 1918 and Feb. 1919, there were 8,025 Chinese entering Canada out of which 3647 paid head tax. There were 257 merchants and students, and also 4121 returning Chinese. There was also the report that a transportation committee would be set up to prohibit new Chinese from entering Canada. The Industry Committee ( ) also requested that the Canadian government check any further new Chinese entrants.
