Description
March 10, Monday P.3 1. A meeting was held on March 7 by the treasury committee to discuss the amount of business license taxation. Macleod was the attorney for the Chinese hawkers who were against the $100 license tax. He asserted that the Chinese hawkers had already set up an organization to fight for their rights. Finally, he added that the total business a hawker could do was about $900, and he had to pay $38 per month for his horse wagon, so $100 tax would be too much for the Chinese hawkers.
