Description
March 6, Thurs. P.3 News from Ottawa: Recently the immigration department had sent out a representative who knew Chinese to inspect the status of the Chinese immigrants. The representative had gone to Chinese laundromats to investigate workers holding student visas. If any Chinese entered Canada as students but did not go to school, their head tax would be confiscated and they would also be deported. It was reported that there were over 3,000 illegal 'student workers'. Recently, there were quite a few Chinese registering for admission to school. It was also believed that over 1,000 Chinese in Hong Kong were refused entry to Canada because Canada was afraid that the excessive oriental manpower would exploit the job opportunities of the returning soldiers.
