Description
Feb. 14. Friday P.2 There was conflict between China and Japan (Feb. 13, P.2, Feb. 14 P.3) at the Paris Peace Conference and the Japanese government demanded President to dismiss the 2 Chinese delegates to the conference. The overseas Chinese became furious about the move of the Japanese government. Two telegrams were immediately sent out by the C.B.A. in Vancouver. One was to President and the External Affairs Minister. This telegram requested that the two delegates be firm with Japan and not give in. The other telegram was sent to the delegates of the Paris Peace Conference under the name of the overall Chinese residents in Vancouver. This telegram requested that the conference make known to the public the secret treaty between China and Japan (Feb. 22, P.I). (Since the sending out of those 2 telegrams was very urgent, the C.B.A. did not get the consent of the Chinese community. The decision was only made by the two boards of administrators.) P.3 2. News from Winnipeg. The provincial legislature had passed a law to close down all Chinese restaurants in Manitoba because the restaurants provided a bad entertainment place for the k youngsters at night time. They were afraid that the youngsters might learn evil habits when they were in these restaurants.
